1 So be imitators of God, as his dear children. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children
2 Live lovingly, just as the Messiah also loved us and gave himself for us as an offering and sacrifice, a fragrant aroma to God. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
3 Do not let sexual sin, impurity of any kind, or greed even be mentioned among you, as is proper for saints. But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
4 Obscene, flippant, or vulgar talk is totally inappropriate. Instead, let there be thanksgiving. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
5 For you know very well that no immoral or impure person, or anyone who is greedy (that is, an idolater), has an inheritance in the kingdom of the Messiah and of God. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Do not let anyone deceive you with meaningless words, for it is because of these things that God becomes angry with those who disobey. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
7 So do not be partners with them. Therefore do not become partners with them; Therefore do not be partners with them.
8 For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light, for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
9 for the fruit that the light produces consists of every form of goodness, righteousness, and truth. (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
10 Determine what pleases the Lord, and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. and find out what pleases the Lord.
11 and have nothing to do with the unfruitful actions that darkness produces. Instead, expose them for what they are. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
12 For it is shameful even to mention what is done by these disobedient people in secret. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
13 But everything that is exposed to the light becomes visible, But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.
14 for the light is making everything visible. That is why it says, |Wake up, sleeper! Arise from the dead, and the Messiah will shine on you.'' for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
15 So, then, be careful how you live. Do not be unwise but wise, Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,
16 making the best use of your time because the times are evil. making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
17 Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
18 Stop getting drunk with wine, which leads to wild living, but keep on being filled with the Spirit. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,
19 Then you will recite to one another psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; you will sing and make music to the Lord with your hearts; addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,
20 you will consistently give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah; giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
21 and you will submit to one another out of reverence for the Messiah. submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands as to the Lord. Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of his wife as the Messiah is the head of the church. It is he who is the Savior of the body. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24 Indeed, just as the church is submissive to the Messiah, so wives must be submissive to their husbands in everything. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives as the Messiah loved the church and gave himself for it, Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
26 so that he might make it holy by cleansing it, washing it with water and the word, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
27 and might present the church to himself in all its glory, without a spot or wrinkle or anything of the kind, but holy and without fault. so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
28 In the same way, husbands must love their wives as they love their own bodies. A man who loves his wife loves himself. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29 For no one has ever hated his own body, but he nourishes and tenderly cares for it, as the Messiah does the church. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—
30 For we are parts of his body—of his flesh and of his bones. because we are members of his body. for we are members of his body.
31 |That is why a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh.| “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
32 This is a great secret, but I am talking about the Messiah and the church. This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
33 But each individual man among you must love his wife as he loves himself; and may the wife fear her husband. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
