1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as most dear children; Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath delivered himself for us, an oblation and a sacrifice to God for an odour of sweetness. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not so much as be named among you, as becometh saints: But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
4 Or obscenity, or foolish talking, or scurrility, which is to no purpose; but rather giving of thanks. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
5 For know you this and understand, that no fornicator, or unclean, or covetous person (which is a serving of idols), hath inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words. For because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the children of unbelief. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
7 Be ye not therefore partakers with them. Therefore do not become partners with them; Therefore do not be partners with them.
8 For you were heretofore darkness, but now light in the Lord. Walk then as children of the light. for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
9 For the fruit of the light is in all goodness, and justice, and truth; (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
10 Proving what is well pleasing to God: and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. and find out what pleases the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
12 For the things that are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
13 But all things that are reproved, are made manifest by the light; for all that is made manifest is light. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.
14 Wherefore he saith: Rise thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead: and Christ shall enlighten thee. for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
15 See therefore, brethren, how you walk circumspectly: not as unwise, Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,
16 But as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil. making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore become not unwise, but understanding what is the will of God. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury; but be ye filled with the holy Spirit, And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord; addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,
20 Giving thanks always for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God and the Father: giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
21 Being subject one to another, in the fear of Christ. submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord: Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
23 Because the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. He is the saviour of his body. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24 Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it: Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
26 That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life: that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any; such thing; but that it should be holy, and without blemish. so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
28 So also ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife, loveth himself. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29 For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, as also Christ doth the church: For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—
30 Because we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. because we are members of his body. for we are members of his body.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
32 This is a great sacrament; but I speak in Christ and in the church. This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular love his wife as himself: and let the wife fear her husband. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
