1 Therefore, as most beloved sons, be imitators of God. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children
2 And walk in love, just as Christ also loved us and delivered himself for us, as an oblation and a sacrifice to God, with a fragrance of sweetness. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
3 But let not any kind of fornication, or impurity, or rapacity so much as be named among you, just as is worthy of the saints, But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
4 nor any indecent, or foolish, or abusive talk, for this is without purpose; but instead, give thanks. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
5 For know and understand this: no one who is a fornicator, or lustful, or rapacious (for these are a kind of service to idols) holds an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no one seduce you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God was sent upon the sons of unbelief. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
7 Therefore, do not choose to become participants with them. Therefore do not become partners with them; Therefore do not be partners with them.
8 For you were darkness, in times past, but now you are light, in the Lord. So then, walk as sons of the light. for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
9 For the fruit of the light is in all goodness and justice and truth, (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
10 affirming what is well-pleasing to God. and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. and find out what pleases the Lord.
11 And so, have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead, refute them. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
12 For the things that are done by them in secret are shameful, even to mention. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
13 But all things that are disputed are made manifest by the light. For all that is made manifest is light. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.
14 Because of this, it is said: “You who are sleeping: awaken, and rise up from the dead, and so shall the Christ enlighten you.” for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
15 And so, brothers, see to it that you walk cautiously, not like the foolish, Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,
16 but like the wise: atoning for this age, because this is an evil time. making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
17 For this reason, do not choose to be imprudent. Instead, understand what is the will of God. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
18 And do not choose to be inebriated by wine, for this is self-indulgence. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,
19 speaking among yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual canticles, singing and reciting psalms to the Lord in your hearts, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,
20 giving thanks always for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God the Father. giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
21 Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ. submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Wives should be submissive to their husbands, as to the Lord. Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the Church. He is the Savior of his body. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24 Therefore, just as the Church is subject to Christ, so also should wives be subject to their husbands in all things. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the Church and handed himself over for her, Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
26 so that he might sanctify her, washing her clean by water and the Word of life, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
27 so that he might offer her to himself as a glorious Church, not having any spot or wrinkle or any such thing, so that she would be holy and immaculate. so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
28 So, too, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29 For no man has ever hated his own flesh, but instead he nourishes and cherishes it, as Christ also does to the Church. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—
30 For we are a part of his body, of his flesh and of his bones. because we are members of his body. for we are members of his body.
31 “For this reason, a man shall leave behind his father and mother, and he shall cling to his wife; and the two shall be as one flesh.” “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
32 This is a great Sacrament. And I am speaking in Christ and in the Church. This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
33 Yet truly, each and every one of you should love his wife as himself. And a wife should fear her husband. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
