1 Be ye therefore folowers of God, as deare chyldren: Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children
2 And walke ye in loue, euen as Christe hath loued vs, and hath geuen hym selfe for vs an offering and a sacrifice of a sweete smellyng sauour to God. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
3 But fornication, and all vncleannesse, or couetousnesse, let it not be once named among you, as it becommeth saintes: But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.
4 Neither fylthynesse, neither foolyshe talkyng, neither iestyng, which are not comely: but rather, geuyng of thankes. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
5 For this ye knowe, that no whoremonger, neither vncleane person, nor couetous person, which is a worshipper of images, hath any inheritaunce in the kyngdome of Christe, and of God. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceaue you with vayne wordes: For, because of such thynges commeth the wrath of God vppon the chyldren of disobedience. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
7 Be not ye therefore companions of them. Therefore do not become partners with them; Therefore do not be partners with them.
8 For ye were sometimes darknesse: but nowe are ye lyght in the Lorde. Walke as chyldren of lyght. for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light
9 For the fruite of the spirite (is) in all goodnesse, and righteousnesse, & trueth, (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)
10 Approuyng what is acceptable vnto the Lorde. and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. and find out what pleases the Lord.
11 And haue no felowship with the vnfruitefull workes of darknesse, but rather euen rebuke them. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
12 For it is shame euen to name those thynges whiche are done of them in secrete. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
13 But all thynges, when they are rebuked of the lyght, are manifest: For all that which do make manifest, is lyght. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.
14 Wherefore he sayth: Awake thou that sleepest, and stande vp from the dead, and Christe shall geue thee lyght. for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
15 Take heede therfore howe ye walke circumspectlye: not as vnwyse, but as wyse, Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,
16 Redeemyng the time, because ye dayes are euyll. making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
17 Wherfore be ye not vnwise, but vnderstandyng what the wyll of the Lord is. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
18 And be not drunke with wine, wherin is excesse: but be fylled with the spirite, And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,
19 Speaking vnto your selues in psalmes and hymnes, and spirituall songues, syngyng and makyng melodie to the Lorde in your heartes: addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,
20 Geuing thankes alwayes for all thinges vnto God and the father, in ye name of our Lorde Iesus Christe, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
21 Submittyng your selues one to another in the feare of God. submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Wyues, submit your selues vnto your owne husbandes, as vnto the Lorde: Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
23 For the husbande is the head of the wyfe, euen as Christe is the head of the Church: & he is the sauiour of the bodie. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24 But as the Church is subiect to Christ, lykewyse the wyues to their owne husbandes in all thynges. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Ye husbandes loue your wyues, euen as Christe also loued the Churche, and gaue hym selfe for it, Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
26 To sanctifie it, clensyng it in the fountayne of water in the worde, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
27 To make it vnto hym selfe a glorious Churche, not hauyng spot or wrinckle, or any such thyng: but that it should be holy, and without blame. so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
28 So ought men to loue their wyues, as their owne bodies. He that loueth his wyfe, loueth hym selfe. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29 For no man euer yet hated his owne flesshe: but norissheth & cherissheth it, euen as the Lorde the Churche. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesshe, and of his bones. because we are members of his body. for we are members of his body.
31 For this cause shall a man leaue father and mother, and shalbe ioyned vnto his wyfe, and two shalbe made one flesshe. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
32 This is a great secrete: but I speake of Christe and of the Churche. This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
33 Therfore euery one of you do ye so Let euery one of you loue his wyfe euen as hym selfe, and let the wyfe reuerence her husbande. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
