In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, I wrote the first narrative, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach,
until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. until the day He was taken up, after He had given orders through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen. Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had given orders by the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom He had chosen.
He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. After He had suffered, He also presented Himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of God. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of things regarding the kingdom of God.
And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; While He was together with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise. “This,” He said, “is what you heard from Me; And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me;
for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” So when they had come together, they asked Him, “Lord, are You restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?” When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? So, when they had come together, they began asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time that You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”
He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by His own authority. And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But He said to them, “It is not for you to know periods of time or appointed times which the Father has set by His own authority;
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and as far as the remotest part of the earth.”
And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. After He had said this, He was taken up as they were watching, and a cloud took Him out of their sight. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were watching, and a cloud took Him up, out of their sight.
And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, While He was going, they were gazing into heaven, and suddenly two men in white clothes stood by them. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, then behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them,
and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come in the same way that you have seen Him going into heaven.” Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. and they said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”
Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called the Mount of Olives, which is near Jerusalem—a Sabbath day’s journey away. Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away.
And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James. When they arrived, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. When they had entered the city, they went up to the upstairs room where they were staying, that is, Peter, John, James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.
All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. All these were continually united in prayer, along with the women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and His brothers. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. All these were continually devoting themselves with one mind to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
In those days Peter stood up among the brothers (the company of persons was in all about 120) and said, During these days Peter stood up among the brothers—the number of people who were together was about 120—and said: “ And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) At this time Peter stood up among the brothers and sisters (a group of about 120 people was there together), and said,
“Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David spoke in advance about Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. “Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.
For he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry.” For he was one of our number and was allotted a share in this ministry.” For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. For he was counted among us and received his share in this ministry.”
(Now this man acquired a field with the reward of his wickedness, and falling headlong he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out. Now this man acquired a field with his unrighteous wages. He fell headfirst and burst open in the middle, and all his insides spilled out. Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. (Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.
And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field was called in their own language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) This became known to all the residents of Jerusalem, so that in their own language that field is called Hakeldama (that is, Field of Blood).” And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. And it became known to all the residents of Jerusalem; as a result that field was called Hakeldama in their own language, that is, Field of Blood.)
“For it is written in the Book of Psalms, “‘May his camp become desolate, and let there be no one to dwell in it’; and “‘Let another take his office.’ For it is written in the Book of Psalms: Let his dwelling become desolate; let no one live in it; and Let someone else take his position.” For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take. “For it is written in the book of Psalms: ‘MAY HIS RESIDENCE BE MADE DESOLATE, AND MAY THERE BE NONE LIVING IN IT’; and, ‘MAY ANOTHER TAKE HIS OFFICE.’
So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Therefore, from among the men who have accompanied us during the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us— Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us—
beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection.” beginning from the baptism of John until the day He was taken up from us—from among these, it is necessary that one become a witness with us of His resurrection.” Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection. beginning with the baptism of John until the day that He was taken up from us—one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”
And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also called Justus, and Matthias. So they proposed two: Joseph, called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias. And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias.
And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen Then they prayed, “You, Lord, know the hearts of all; show which of these two You have chosen And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all people, show which one of these two You have chosen
to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” to take the place in this apostolic service that Judas left to go to his own place.” That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. to occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.”
And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. Then they cast lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias. So he was numbered with the 11 apostles. And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles.
