I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made for all men; First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—
for kings and all that are in dignity, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and gravity; for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
for this is good and acceptable before our Saviour God, This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
who desires that all men should be saved and come to [the] knowledge of [the] truth. who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
For God is one, and [the] mediator of God and men one, [the] man Christ Jesus, For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony [to be rendered] in its own times; who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.
to which I have been appointed a herald and apostle, (I speak [the] truth, I do not lie,) a teacher of [the] nations in faith and truth. For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.
I will therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up pious hands, without wrath or reasoning. I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.
In like manner also that the women in decent deportment and dress adorn themselves with modesty and discretion, not with plaited [hair] and gold, or pearls, or costly clothing, likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
but, what becomes women making profession of the fear of God, by good works. but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works. but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
Let a woman learn in quietness in all subjection; Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
but I do not suffer a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over man, but to be in quietness; I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.
for Adam was formed first, then Eve: For Adam was formed first, then Eve; For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
and Adam was not deceived; but the woman, having been deceived, was in transgression. and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
But she shall be preserved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with discretion. Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control. But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
