1 Πρεσβυτέρους [τοὺς] ἐν ὑμῖν παρακαλῶ ὁ συμπρεσβύτερος καὶ μάρτυς τῶν τοῦ Χριστοῦ παθημάτων ὁ καὶ τῆς μελλούσης ἀποκαλύπτεσθαι δόξης κοινωνός So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed:
2 ποιμάνατε τὸ ἐν ὑμῖν ποίμνιον τοῦ Θεοῦ ‹ἐπισκοποῦντες› μὴ ἀναγκαστῶς ἀλλὰ ἑκουσίως κατὰ Θεόν μηδὲ αἰσχροκερδῶς ἀλλὰ προθύμως shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve;
