1 When I came to you, brothers, I didn't come and tell you about God's secret with rhetorical language or wisdom. And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.
2 For while I was with you I resolved to know nothing except Jesus the Messiah, and him crucified. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
3 It was in weakness, fear, and great trembling that I came to you. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling.
4 My message and my preaching were not accompanied by clever, wise words, but by a display of the Spirit's power, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,
5 so that your faith would not be based on human wisdom but on God's power. so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.
6 However, when we are among mature people, we do speak a message of wisdom, but not the wisdom of this world or of the rulers of this world, who are passing off the scene. Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
7 Instead, we speak about God's wisdom in a hidden secret, which God destined before the world began for our glory. But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.
8 None of the rulers of this world understood it, because if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written, |No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him.| But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him—
10 But God has revealed those things to us by his Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the deep things of God. these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
11 Is there anyone who can understand his own thoughts except his own inner spirit? In the same way, no one can know the thoughts of God except God's Spirit. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
12 Now, we have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we can understand the things that were freely given to us by God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.
13 We don't speak about these things with words taught us by human wisdom, but with words taught by the Spirit, as we explain spiritual things to spiritual people. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.
14 A person who isn't spiritual doesn't accept the things of God's Spirit, for they are nonsense to him. He can't understand them because they are spiritually evaluated. The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
15 The spiritual person evaluates everything but is subject to no one else's evaluation. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments,
16 For |Who has known the mind of the Lord so that he can advise him?| However, we have the mind of the Messiah. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
