39 וַיֵּלְכוּ֙ לִמְב֣וֹא גְדֹ֔ר עַ֖ד לְמִזְרַ֣ח הַגָּ֑יְא לְבַקֵּ֥שׁ מִרְעֶ֖ה לְצֹאנָֽם׃ They journeyed to the entrance of Gedor, to the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks, and they went to the outskirts of Gedor to the east of the valley in search of pasture for their flocks.
40 וַֽיִּמְצְא֤וּ מִרְעֶה֙ שָׁמֵ֣ן וָט֔וֹב וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ רַחֲבַ֣ת יָדַ֔יִם וְשֹׁקֶ֖טֶת וּשְׁלֵוָ֑ה כִּ֣י מִן־ חָ֔ם הַיֹּשְׁבִ֥ים שָׁ֖ם לְפָנִֽים׃ where they found rich, good pasture, and the land was very broad, quiet, and peaceful, for the former inhabitants there belonged to Ham. They found rich, good pasture, and the land was spacious, peaceful and quiet. Some Hamites had lived there formerly.
41 וַיָּבֹ֡אוּ אֵלֶּה֩ הַכְּתוּבִ֨ים בְּשֵׁמ֜וֹת בִּימֵ֣י ׀ יְחִזְקִיָּ֣הוּ מֶֽלֶךְ־ יְהוּדָ֗ה וַיַּכּ֨וּ אֶת־ אָהֳלֵיהֶ֜ם וְאֶת־ [המעינים] (הַמְּעוּנִ֨ים) אֲשֶׁ֤ר נִמְצְאוּ־ שָׁ֙מָּה֙ וַיַּחֲרִימֻם֙ עַד־ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ תַּחְתֵּיהֶ֑ם כִּֽי־ מִרְעֶ֥ה לְצֹאנָ֖ם שָֽׁם׃ These, registered by name, came in the days of Hezekiah, king of Judah, and destroyed their tents and the Meunites who were found there, and marked them for destruction to this day, and settled in their place, because there was pasture there for their flocks. The men whose names were listed came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. They attacked the Hamites in their dwellings and also the Meunites who were there and completely destroyed them, as is evident to this day. Then they settled in their place, because there was pasture for their flocks.
