New Living Translation | NET Bible |
O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. | 1A psalm of David, written when he was in the Judean wilderness. O God, you are my God! I long for you! My soul thirsts for you, my flesh yearns for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. |
I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. | 2Yes, in the sanctuary I have seen you, and witnessed your power and splendor. |
Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! | 3Because experiencing your loyal love is better than life itself, my lips will praise you. |
I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. | 4For this reason I will praise you while I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. |
You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. | 5As if with choice meat you satisfy my soul. My mouth joyfully praises you, |
I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. | 6whenever I remember you on my bed, and think about you during the nighttime hours. |
Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. | 7For you are my deliverer; under your wings I rejoice. |
I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely. | 8My soul pursues you; your right hand upholds me. |
But those plotting to destroy me will come to ruin. They will go down into the depths of the earth. | 9Enemies seek to destroy my life, but they will descend into the depths of the earth. |
They will die by the sword and become the food of jackals. | 10Each one will be handed over to the sword; their corpses will be eaten by jackals. |
But the king will rejoice in God. All who swear to tell the truth will praise him, while liars will be silenced. | 11But the king will rejoice in God; everyone who takes oaths in his name will boast, for the mouths of those who speak lies will be shut up. |
