This letter is from Paul, Silas, and Timothy. We are writing to the church in Thessalonica, to you who belong to God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.1Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. Encouragement during Persecution2Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.3We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;
We proudly tell God’s other churches about your endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering.4So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:
And God will use this persecution to show his justice and to make you worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering.5Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:
In his justice he will pay back those who persecute you.6Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;
And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come with his mighty angels,7And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus.8In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power.9Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
When he comes on that day, he will receive glory from his holy people—praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about him.10When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.11Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:
Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.12That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
