| 1For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by a stringed instrument. O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. | 1LORD, our Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth! You set your glory above the heavens! |
| 2You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies and all who oppose you. | 2Out of the mouths of infants and nursing babies you have established strength on account of your adversaries, in order to silence the enemy and vengeful foe. |
| 3When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers--the moon and the stars you set in place-- | 3When I look at the heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you established— |
| 4what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? | 4what is man that you take notice of him, or the son of man that you pay attention to him? |
| 5Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. | 5You made him a little less than divine, but you crowned him with glory and honor. |
| 6You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority-- | 6You gave him dominion over the work of your hands, you put all things under his feet: |
