New International Version | New Living Translation |
Of David. A maskil. Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. | 1Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! |
Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. | 2Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! |
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. | 3When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. |
For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. | 4Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude |
Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD." And you forgave the guilt of my sin. | 5Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Interlude |
Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them. | 6Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment. |
You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. | 7For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. Interlude |
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. | 8The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. |
Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. | 9Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.” |
Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD's unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. | 10Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the LORD. |
Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart! | 11So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure! |
