Then Job responded, | 1Then Job answered: |
"What a help you are to the weak! How you have saved the arm without strength! | 2How you have helped the powerless and delivered the arm that is weak! |
"What counsel you have given to one without wisdom! What helpful insight you have abundantly provided! | 3How you have counseled the unwise and abundantly provided insight! |
"To whom have you uttered words? And whose spirit was expressed through you? | 4With whom did you speak these words? Whose breath came out of your mouth? |
"The departed spirits tremble Under the waters and their inhabitants. | 5The departed spirits tremble beneath the waters and all that inhabit them. |
"Naked is Sheol before Him, And Abaddon has no covering. | 6Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering. |
"He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing. | 7He stretches the northern skies over empty space; he hangs the earth on nothing. |
"He wraps up the waters in His clouds, And the cloud does not burst under them. | 8He wraps up the water in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst beneath its weight. |
"He obscures the face of the full moon And spreads His cloud over it. | 9He obscures the view of his throne, spreading his cloud over it. |
"He has inscribed a circle on the surface of the waters At the boundary of light and darkness. | 10He laid out the horizon on the surface of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. |
"The pillars of heaven tremble And are amazed at His rebuke. | 11The pillars that hold up the sky tremble, astounded at his rebuke. |
"He quieted the sea with His power, And by His understanding He shattered Rahab. | 12By his power he stirred the sea, and by his understanding he crushed Rahab. |
"By His breath the heavens are cleared; His hand has pierced the fleeing serpent. | 13By his breath the heavens gained their beauty; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent. |
"Behold, these are the fringes of His ways; And how faint a word we hear of Him! But His mighty thunder, who can understand?" | 14These are but the fringes of his ways; how faint is the word we hear of him! Who can understand his mighty thunder? |
