New American Standard Bible 1995Christian Standard Bible
Then Job responded,1Then Job answered:
"What a help you are to the weak! How you have saved the arm without strength!2How you have helped the powerless and delivered the arm that is weak!
"What counsel you have given to one without wisdom! What helpful insight you have abundantly provided!3How you have counseled the unwise and abundantly provided insight!
"To whom have you uttered words? And whose spirit was expressed through you?4With whom did you speak these words? Whose breath came out of your mouth?
"The departed spirits tremble Under the waters and their inhabitants.5The departed spirits tremble beneath the waters and all that inhabit them.
"Naked is Sheol before Him, And Abaddon has no covering.6Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering.
"He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing.7He stretches the northern skies over empty space; he hangs the earth on nothing.
"He wraps up the waters in His clouds, And the cloud does not burst under them.8He wraps up the water in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst beneath its weight.
"He obscures the face of the full moon And spreads His cloud over it.9He obscures the view of his throne, spreading his cloud over it.
"He has inscribed a circle on the surface of the waters At the boundary of light and darkness.10He laid out the horizon on the surface of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness.
"The pillars of heaven tremble And are amazed at His rebuke.11The pillars that hold up the sky tremble, astounded at his rebuke.
"He quieted the sea with His power, And by His understanding He shattered Rahab.12By his power he stirred the sea, and by his understanding he crushed Rahab.
"By His breath the heavens are cleared; His hand has pierced the fleeing serpent.13By his breath the heavens gained their beauty; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
"Behold, these are the fringes of His ways; And how faint a word we hear of Him! But His mighty thunder, who can understand?"14These are but the fringes of his ways; how faint is the word we hear of him! Who can understand his mighty thunder?
