| 1A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; | 1O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. |
| 2To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. | 2I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. |
| 3Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. | 3Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! |
| 4Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. | 4I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. |
| 5My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: | 5You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. |
| 6When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. | 6I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. |
| 7Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. | 7Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. |
| 8My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. | 8I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely. |
| 9But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth. | 9But those plotting to destroy me will come to ruin. They will go down into the depths of the earth. |
| 10They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes. | 10They will die by the sword and become the food of jackals. |
| 11But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. | 11But the king will rejoice in God. All who swear to tell the truth will praise him, while liars will be silenced. |
