A Psalm of David, Maschil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. | 1Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! |
Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. | 2Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! |
When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. | 3When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. |
For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. | 4Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude |
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. | 5Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Interlude |
For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. | 6Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment. |
Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. | 7For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. Interlude |
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. | 8The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. |
Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee. | 9Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.” |
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about. | 10Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the LORD. |
Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart. | 11So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure! |
