| 1Davidic. A Maskil. How joyful is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered! | 1Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! |
| 2How joyful is the man the LORD does not charge with sin and in whose spirit is no deceit! | 2Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! |
| 3When I kept silent, my bones became brittle from my groaning all day long. | 3When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. |
| 4For day and night Your hand was heavy on me; my strength was drained as in the summer's heat. Selah | 4Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude |
| 5Then I acknowledged my sin to You and did not conceal my iniquity. I said," I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," and You took away the guilt of my sin. Selah | 5Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. | 6Therefore let everyone who is faithful pray to You at a time that You may be found. When great floodwaters come, they will not reach him. | 6Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment. |

| 8I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with My eye on you, I will give counsel. | 8The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. |
| 9Do not be like a horse or mule, without understanding, that must be controlled with bit and bridle or else it will not come near you. | 9Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.” |
| 10Many pains come to the wicked, but the one who trusts in the LORD will have faithful love surrounding him. | 10Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the LORD. |
| 11Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous ones; shout for joy, all you upright in heart. | 11So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure! |
