Holman Christian Standard Bible | International Standard Version |
A Davidic psalm. When he was in the Wilderness of Judah. God, You are my God; I eagerly seek You. I thirst for You; my body faints for You in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water. | 1God, you are my God! I will fervently seek you. My soul thirsts for you; my flesh longs for you in a dry, weary, and parched land. |
So I gaze on You in the sanctuary to see Your strength and Your glory. | 2So I have looked for you in the sanctuary, to behold your power and glory. |
My lips will glorify You because Your faithful love is better than life. | 3Because your gracious love is better than life itself, my lips will praise you. |
So I will praise You as long as I live; at Your name, I will lift up my hands. | 4So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in your name. |
You satisfy me as with rich food; my mouth will praise You with joyful lips. | 5Just as I am satisfied with the choicest of foods, so my lips will praise you joyfully. |
When I think of You as I lie on my bed, I meditate on You during the night watches | 6When I think of you in bed, I will meditate on you in the night watches. |
because You are my helper; I will rejoice in the shadow of Your wings. | 7For you have been my strength, and in the shadow of your wings I will shout for joy. |
I follow close to You; Your right hand holds on to me. | 8My soul clings to you, even as your right hand supports me. |
But those who seek to destroy my life will go into the depths of the earth. | 9But as for those who seek to destroy me, they will go down to the depths of the earth; |
They will be given over to the power of the sword; they will become the jackals' prey. | 10May they be given over to the power of the sword; may they become carrion for jackals. |
But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by Him will boast, for the mouths of liars will be shut. | 11But as for the king, he will rejoice in God. Indeed, everyone who swears by God will exult, because the mouths of liars will be silenced. |
