| 1But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. | 1Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly--mere infants in Christ. |
| 2I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, | 2I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. |
| 3for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? | 3You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? |
| 4For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human? | 4For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not mere human beings? |
| 5What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. | 5What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe--as the Lord has assigned to each his task. |
| 6I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. | 6I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. |

| 15If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. | 15If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved--even though only as one escaping through the flames. |
| 16Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? | 16Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst? |
| 17If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple. | 17If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that person; for God's temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. |
| 18Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. | 18Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become "fools" so that you may become wise. |
