English Standard Version | NET Bible |
I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry. | 1For the music director; By David, a psalm. I relied completely on the LORD, and he turned toward me and heard my cry for help. |
He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. | 2He lifted me out of the watery pit, out of the slimy mud. He placed my feet on a rock and gave me secure footing. |
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD. | 3He gave me reason to sing a new song, praising our God. May many see what God has done, so that they might swear allegiance to him and trust in the LORD! |
Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie! | 4How blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD and does not seek help from the proud or from liars! |
You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told. | 5O LORD, my God, you have accomplished many things; you have done amazing things and carried out your purposes for us. No one can thwart you! I want to declare them and talk about them, but they are too numerous to recount! |
In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required. | 6Receiving sacrifices and offerings are not your primary concern. You make that quite clear to me! You do not ask for burnt sacrifices and sin offerings. |
Then I said, “Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me: | 7Then I say, "Look! I come! What is written in the scroll pertains to me. |
I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” | 8I want to do what pleases you, my God. Your law dominates my thoughts." |
I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O LORD. | 9I have told the great assembly about your justice. Look! I spare no words! O LORD, you know this is true. |
I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation. | 10I have not failed to tell about your justice; I spoke about your reliability and deliverance; I have not neglected to tell the great assembly about your loyal love and faithfulness. |
As for you, O LORD, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me! | 11O LORD, you do not withhold your compassion from me. May your loyal love and faithfulness continually protect me! |
For evils have encompassed me beyond number; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head; my heart fails me. | 12For innumerable dangers surround me. My sins overtake me so I am unable to see; they outnumber the hairs of my head so my strength fails me. |
Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me! O LORD, make haste to help me! | 13Please be willing, O LORD, to rescue me! O LORD, hurry and help me! |
Let those be put to shame and disappointed altogether who seek to snatch away my life; let those be turned back and brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt! | 14May those who are trying to snatch away my life be totally embarrassed and ashamed! May those who want to harm me be turned back and ashamed! |
Let those be appalled because of their shame who say to me, “Aha, Aha!” | 15May those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" be humiliated and disgraced! |
But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, “Great is the LORD!” | 16May all those who seek you be happy and rejoice in you! May those who love to experience your deliverance say continually, "May the LORD be praised!" |
As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God! | 17I am oppressed and needy! May the Lord pay attention to me! You are my helper and my deliverer! O my God, do not delay! |
