Christian Standard BibleNET Bible
I have taken refuge in the LORD. How can you say to me, "Escape to the mountains like a bird!1For the music director; by David. In the LORD I have taken shelter. How can you say to me, "Flee to a mountain like a bird!
For look, the wicked string bows; they put their arrows on bowstrings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.2For look, the wicked prepare their bows, they put their arrows on the strings, to shoot in the darkness at the morally upright.
When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?"3When the foundations are destroyed, what can the godly accomplish?"
The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD--his throne is in heaven. His eyes watch; his gaze examines everyone.4The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD's throne is in heaven. His eyes watch; his eyes examine all people.
The LORD examines the righteous, but he hates the wicked and those who love violence.5The LORD approves of the godly, but he hates the wicked and those who love to do violence.
Let him rain burning coals and sulfur on the wicked; let a scorching wind be the portion in their cup.6May the LORD rain down burning coals and brimstone on the wicked! A whirlwind is what they deserve!
For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds. The upright will see his face.7Certainly the LORD is just; he rewards godly deeds; the upright will experience his favor.
