Berean Study Bible | International Standard Version |
A song of ascents. I lift up my eyes to You, the One enthroned in heaven. | 1To you, who sit enthroned in heaven, I lift up my eyes. |
As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes are on the LORD our God until He shows us mercy. | 2Consider this: as the eyes of a servant focus on what his master provides, and as the eyes of a female servant focus on what her mistress provides, so our eyes focus on the LORD our God, until he has mercy on us. |
Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy, for we have endured much contempt. | 3Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy, for we have had more than enough of contempt. |
We have endured much scorn from the arrogant, much contempt from the proud. | 4Our lives overflow with scorn from those who live at ease, with contempt from those who are proud. |
