Berean Study BibleInternational Standard Version
Then Job answered:1In reply, Job responded:
“How you have helped the powerless and saved the arm that is feeble!2"What a help you are to the weak! How powerfully you deliver those without strength!
How you have counseled the unwise and provided fully sound insight!3What counsel you provide to the fool! What insight you provide so abundantly!
To whom have you uttered these words? And whose spirit spoke through you?4Who helped you say all of this? Who inspired you?"
The dead tremble—those beneath the waters and those who dwell in them.5"The ghosts of the dead writhe under the waters along with those who live there with them.
Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering.6Sheol is naked before God and Abaddon has no clothes.
He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth upon nothing.7He spreads out the north over empty space, suspending the earth over nothing.
He wraps up the waters in His clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their own weight.8"He restricts the waters within clouds and the clouds don't burst open under them.
He covers the face of the full moon, spreading over it His cloud.9He has enclosed the face of the full moon and spread his clouds over it.
He has inscribed a horizon on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness.10He has delimited a boundary over the surface of the oceans as a limit between light and darkness.
The foundations of heaven quake, astounded at His rebuke.11The pillars of the heavens tremble and are astounded at his rebuke.
By His power He stirred the sea; by His understanding He shattered Rahab.12By his power he disturbs the sea; and with his skill he shatters the sea monster.
By His breath the skies were cleared; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.13he clears the skies with his wind; his hands have pierced the fleeing serpent.
Indeed, these are but the fringes of His ways; how faint is the whisper we hear of Him! Who then can understand the thunder of His power?”14Indeed, these are the fringes of his ways, and how faint is the whisper we've heard of it! But who can comprehend the thunder of his might?"
