(Numbers 16:41-50; 1 Corinthians 10:1-13)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women,1While Israel lived in Shittim, the people began to whore with the daughters of Moab.1While Israel remained at Shittim, the people began to play the harlot with the daughters of Moab.1And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.1While Israel was staying in the Acacia Grove, the people began to have sexual relations with the women of Moab.
who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before these gods.2These invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.2For they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.2And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.2The women invited them to the sacrifices for their gods, and the people ate and bowed in worship to their gods.
So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the LORD's anger burned against them.3So Israel yoked himself to Baal of Peor. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.3So Israel joined themselves to Baal of Peor, and the LORD was angry against Israel.3And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.3So Israel aligned itself with Baal of Peor, and the LORD's anger burned against Israel.
The LORD said to Moses, "Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that the LORD's fierce anger may turn away from Israel."4And the LORD said to Moses, “Take all the chiefs of the people and hang them in the sun before the LORD, that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel.”4The LORD said to Moses, "Take all the leaders of the people and execute them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel."4And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.4The LORD said to Moses, "Take all the leaders of the people and execute them in broad daylight before the LORD so that His burning anger may turn away from Israel."
So Moses said to Israel's judges, "Each of you must put to death those of your people who have yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor."5And Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Each of you kill those of his men who have yoked themselves to Baal of Peor.”5So Moses said to the judges of Israel, "Each of you slay his men who have joined themselves to Baal of Peor."5And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.5So Moses told Israel's judges, "Kill each of the men who aligned themselves with Baal of Peor."

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Then an Israelite man brought into the camp a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting.6And behold, one of the people of Israel came and brought a Midianite woman to his family, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the people of Israel, while they were weeping in the entrance of the tent of meeting.6Then behold, one of the sons of Israel came and brought to his relatives a Midianite woman, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, while they were weeping at the doorway of the tent of meeting.6And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.6An Israelite man came bringing a Midianite woman to his relatives in the sight of Moses and the whole Israelite community while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a spear in his hand7When Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose and left the congregation and took a spear in his hand7When Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he arose from the midst of the congregation and took a spear in his hand,7And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;7When Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw this, he got up from the assembly, took a spear in his hand,
and followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear into both of them, right through the Israelite man and into the woman's stomach. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped;8and went after the man of Israel into the chamber and pierced both of them, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. Thus the plague on the people of Israel was stopped.8and he went after the man of Israel into the tent and pierced both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman, through the body. So the plague on the sons of Israel was checked.8And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.8followed the Israelite man into the tent, and drove it through both the Israelite man and the woman--through her belly. Then the plague on the Israelites was stopped,
but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.9Nevertheless, those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.9Those who died by the plague were 24,000.9And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.9but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.

"Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites. Since he was as zealous for my honor among them as I am, I did not put an end to them in my zeal.11“Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the people of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the people of Israel in my jealousy.11"Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned away My wrath from the sons of Israel in that he was jealous with My jealousy among them, so that I did not destroy the sons of Israel in My jealousy.11Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.11Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the Israelites because he was zealous among them with My zeal, so that I did not destroy the Israelites in My zeal.
Therefore tell him I am making my covenant of peace with him.12Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace,12"Therefore say, 'Behold, I give him My covenant of peace;12Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:12Therefore declare: I grant him My covenant of peace.
He and his descendants will have a covenant of a lasting priesthood, because he was zealous for the honor of his God and made atonement for the Israelites."13and it shall be to him and to his descendants after him the covenant of a perpetual priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the people of Israel.’”13and it shall be for him and his descendants after him, a covenant of a perpetual priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the sons of Israel.'"13And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.13It will be a covenant of perpetual priesthood for him and his future descendants, because he was zealous for his God and made atonement for the Israelites."

The LORD said to Moses,16And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,16Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,16And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,16The LORD told Moses: "
"Treat the Midianites as enemies and kill them.17“Harass the Midianites and strike them down,17"Be hostile to the Midianites and strike them;17Vex the Midianites, and smite them:17Attack the Midianites and strike them dead.
They treated you as enemies when they deceived you in the Peor incident involving their sister Kozbi, the daughter of a Midianite leader, the woman who was killed when the plague came as a result of that incident."18for they have harassed you with their wiles, with which they beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the chief of Midian, their sister, who was killed on the day of the plague on account of Peor.”18for they have been hostile to you with their tricks, with which they have deceived you in the affair of Peor and in the affair of Cozbi, the daughter of the leader of Midian, their sister who was slain on the day of the plague because of Peor."18For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.18For they attacked you with the treachery that they used against you in the Peor incident. They did the same in the case involving their sister Cozbi, daughter of the Midianite leader who was killed the day the plague came at Peor."
