Then Shekaniah son of Jehiel, one of the descendants of Elam, said to Ezra, "We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women from the peoples around us. But in spite of this, there is still hope for Israel.

Maka pada masa itu sahutlah Sekhanya bin Yehiel, dari pada bani Elam, katanya kepada Ezra: Bahwa sangat besarlah salah kami kepada Allah kami, sebab kami sudah berbinikan beberapa perempuan helat dari pada segala bangsa negeri ini; tetapi sekarang belum lagi putus asa akan hal orang Israel ini.

Então Secanias, filho de Jeiel, um dos descendentes de Elão, dirigiu-se a Esdras e lhe propôs: “Temos sido desleais para com nosso Deus quando celebramos alianças e matrimônios com mulheres estrangeiras dentre os povos pagãos da terra. Entretanto, é certo que há esperança para Israel.
