And the Sabbath having elapsed, Mary Magdalene and Mary the [mother] of James and Salome, bought aromatic spices, so that having come, they might anoint Him.
And very early on the first [day] of the week, they come upon the tomb, the sun having arisen.
And they said among themselves, Who will roll away the stone for us from out of the door of the tomb?
And having looked up they beheld that the stone has been rolled away; for it was exceedingly great (large).
And having entered into the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right, clothed with a white (bright) long robe and they were awe-struck (greatly astonished).
And he says to them, Do not be awe-struck. You seek Jesus the Nazarene, the One having been crucified. He is risen! He is not here; behold the place where they laid Him.
But Go, tell His disciples and Peter that He goes before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He said to you.
And having gone out, they fled from the tomb. For trembling and bewilderment (ecstasy, displacement of the mind) possessed (held, had) them and they spoke nothing to one; for they were fearful. 9And having risen up early the first [day] of the week, He first appeared to Mary Magdalene from whom He had cast out seven demons. 10She having gone, reported it to those having been with Him, who were mourning and weeping. 11And they having heard that He is alive and has been beheld by her, did not believe. 12And after these things, He appeared (was made apparent, manifested) in a different form to two from out of them as they were walking, going into the country; 13And they having gone, reported it to the rest; neither did they believe them. 14And later they were reclining at the table, He appeared (manifested) to the eleven and reproached (scolded, latin-exprobravit-upbraided roots are reproached and reproved, upbraid=scold, find fault with) their non-belief and hardheartedness- because they had not believed those having seen Him risen (latin-resurrexisse-resurrected) {from out of the dead}. 15And He said to them, Go (Journey, Travel) into the whole world, preach the gospel to all creation (every creature, latin-creaturae-creature). 16He who having believed and having been baptized will be saved, however the one having not believed will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany close beside (para-follow) those having believed; In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new (fresh) tongues (glossais); 18{And in their hands} They will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly it shall not hurt them; they will lay hands upon the sick (not-departing thus a persisting illness) and they will be well (kalos-good). 19The Lord Jesus then, indeed, after speaking to them was taken up into the heaven and sat at (from out of) the right [side/hand] of God. 20And they having gone out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming (securing, ratifying, guaranteeing) the word through the signs following upon it (epi-follow). {the following is not found in most translations- the NASB includes it in italics- And they promptly (briefly, concisely) reported all concerning Peter and with these. And after that, Jesus Himself sent out through them from east to west the sacred and imperishable preaching of eternal salvation. Amen}. |
