Basil Miller Foundation (1957)

On March 26, 1957, Dr. Basil W. Miller established the Basil Miller Foundation in Altadena, California, to strengthen gospel witness at home and abroad. Altadena—quietly set along the foothills near Pasadena—became a launching point for wider ministry, turning local faithfulness into global concern. Miller, known as a preacher and widely read Christian author, aimed to gather and direct resources so that evangelism, prayer, and practical help could reach those serving in difficult fields.

The foundation’s work reflected the pattern of Scripture: “How, then, can they call on the One in whom they have not believed? … And how can they preach unless they are sent?” (Romans 10:14–15). It sought to help send, strengthen, and sustain those who carried the message of Christ where it was costly to do so.

In 1959, the work was renamed World-Wide Missions, reflecting a growing burden for the nations. The new name signaled a widening horizon: the gospel was not a regional treasure to be guarded, but good news to be carried. The ministry aligned with Christ’s command: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations… And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19–20).

World-Wide Missions emphasized prayer, encouragement, and tangible support—help that often arrived quietly, yet mattered deeply to workers in hard places.
