A Heart for the Kambari

Baba Ezra Dikki

On April 15, 1957, Baba Ezra Dikki was posted to Majinga among the Kambari people of present-day Niger State, Nigeria. His work became known not for dramatic speeches or quick results, but for a steady pattern of faithful presence—remaining near the people, learning their burdens, and serving with a quiet courage that refused applause.

Those who knew him spoke of a man whose love carried weight. He did not treat suffering as a story to tell, but as a call to pray, to stay, and to bear another’s load. A student later said that Dikki’s heart was always broken by the very things that break the heart of Jesus—an observation that captured both his tenderness and his seriousness.

Majinga Ministry (1957–1981)

For twenty-four years, Dikki labored to extend the church in Majinga and beyond. His ministry was marked by patient endurance, humility, and persistent prayer—qualities that shaped not only converts but also disciples. He taught that following Christ is not merely agreeing with truth, but obeying it over time, especially when obedience is costly.

His heroism was the kind that looks ordinary up close: showing up again after disappointments, giving time to people who could offer nothing in return, refusing bitterness, and choosing faith when fruit seemed slow. In a culture where strength can be measured by force, his strength was measured by service.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” (1 Corinthians 13:4)

“Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

Legacy and Influence

Dikki’s long obedience encouraged many to follow Christ faithfully, not as a short season of enthusiasm but as a lifelong path. Those trained under him remembered that compassion is not sentimental; it is costly love that stays. His life in Majinga became a living lesson: the gospel advances not only through words spoken about Christ, but through a life quietly shaped by Him.
