BOOK I

Psalms 1–41

The Two Paths
(Matthew 5:3–12; Luke 6:20–23)

1Blessed is the man

who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,

and in the path of sinners does not stand,

and in the seat of those mocking does not sit.

2But rather his delight is in the law of YHWH,

and in His law he meditates day and night.

3And he is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which gives its fruit in its time;

and its leaf shall not wither,

and all that he does, he makes prosper.

4Not so the wicked!

But rather they are like the chaff, which the wind drives away.

5Upon thus the wicked shall not stand in the judgment,

nor the sinful ones in the assembly of the righteous.

6For YHWH knows the way of the righteous,

and the way of the wicked shall perish.
