Yahweh Exalts the Humble
(1 Samuel 1:1–8)

הַ֥לְלוּ (Hallelu) יָ֨הּ׀ (YAH).

הַ֭לְלוּ (Praise), עַבְדֵ֣י (O servants) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH),

הַֽ֝לְלוּ (praise) אֶת־ (-) שֵׁ֥ם (the name) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

2  יְהִ֤י (Be) שֵׁ֣ם (the name) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH) מְבֹרָ֑ךְ (blessed)

מֵֽ֝עַתָּ֗ה (from now) וְעַד־ (and even to) עוֹלָֽם׃ (forever).

3  מִמִּזְרַח־ (From the rising) שֶׁ֥מֶשׁ (of the sun) עַד־ (to) מְבוֹא֑וֹ (its coming in)

מְ֝הֻלָּ֗ל (praised is) שֵׁ֣ם (the name) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

4  רָ֖ם (High) עַל־ (over) כָּל־ (all) גּוֹיִ֥ם׀ (nations) יְהוָ֑ה (is YHWH)—

עַ֖ל (and over) הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם (the heavens) כְּבוֹדֽוֹ׃ (His glory).

5  מִ֭י (Who is) כַּיהוָ֣ה (like YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ (our God);

הַֽמַּגְבִּיהִ֥י (being on high) לָשָֽׁבֶת׃ (to dwell).

6  הַֽמַּשְׁפִּילִ֥י (Stooping down) לִרְא֑וֹת (to look) בַּשָּׁמַ֥יִם (on the heavens)

וּבָאָֽרֶץ׃ (and on the earth)!

7  מְקִֽימִ֣י (Raising up) מֵעָפָ֣ר (from the dust) דָּ֑ל (the poor);

מֵֽ֝אַשְׁפֹּ֗ת (from the ash heap) יָרִ֥ים (He lifts high) אֶבְיֽוֹן׃ (the needy one),

8  לְהוֹשִׁיבִ֥י (to make him sit) עִם־ (with) נְדִיבִ֑ים (princes)—

עִ֝֗ם (with) נְדִיבֵ֥י (the princes) עַמּֽוֹ׃ (of His people).

9  מֽוֹשִׁיבִ֨י׀ (Settling) עֲקֶ֬רֶת (the barren woman) הַבַּ֗יִת (in a home),

אֵֽם־ (like a mother) הַבָּנִ֥ים (of sons) שְׂמֵחָ֗ה (joyful).

הַֽלְלוּ־ (Praise) יָֽהּ׃ (YAH)!
