The lineage from Shem to Abraham is a significant genealogical record in the Bible, tracing the descent from Noah's son Shem to the patriarch Abraham. This lineage is detailed in the Book of Genesis and is crucial for understanding the ancestry of the Israelites and the fulfillment of God's promises.

Shem

Shem is one of Noah's three sons, and he is often regarded as the ancestor of the Semitic peoples. After the flood, Shem's descendants are listed in Genesis 10, known as the Table of Nations. Shem's lineage is particularly important as it leads to Abraham, through whom God establishes His covenant.

Arphaxad

Arphaxad is the son of Shem, born two years after the flood. Genesis 11:10-11 states, "Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arphaxad. And after he had become the father of Arphaxad, Shem lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters."

Shelah

Arphaxad's son, Shelah, continues the line. Genesis 11:12-13 records, "When Arphaxad was 35 years old, he became the father of Shelah. And after he had become the father of Shelah, Arphaxad lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters."

Eber

Shelah's son, Eber, is a significant figure as his name is believed to be the root of the term "Hebrew." Genesis 11:14-15 notes, "When Shelah was 30 years old, he became the father of Eber. And after he had become the father of Eber, Shelah lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters."

Peleg

Eber's son, Peleg, is noted for the division of the earth during his time. Genesis 11:16-17 states, "When Eber was 34 years old, he became the father of Peleg. And after he had become the father of Peleg, Eber lived 430 years and had other sons and daughters."

Reu

Peleg's son, Reu, continues the lineage. Genesis 11:18-19 records, "When Peleg was 30 years old, he became the father of Reu. And after he had become the father of Reu, Peleg lived 209 years and had other sons and daughters."

Serug

Reu's son, Serug, is the next in line. Genesis 11:20-21 notes, "When Reu was 32 years old, he became the father of Serug. And after he had become the father of Serug, Reu lived 207 years and had other sons and daughters."

Nahor

Serug's son, Nahor, is the grandfather of Abraham. Genesis 11:22-23 states, "When Serug was 30 years old, he became the father of Nahor. And after he had become the father of Nahor, Serug lived 200 years and had other sons and daughters."

Terah

Nahor's son, Terah, is the father of Abraham. Genesis 11:24-25 records, "When Nahor was 29 years old, he became the father of Terah. And after he had become the father of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters."

Abraham

Terah's son, Abraham, originally named Abram, is a central figure in the Bible. God calls Abraham to leave his homeland and promises to make him a great nation. Genesis 12:1-3 recounts God's call: "Then the LORD said to Abram, 'Leave your country, your kindred, and your father's household, and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you; and all the families of the earth will be blessed through you.'"

This lineage from Shem to Abraham is foundational for understanding the biblical narrative and God's unfolding plan for humanity through the covenant with Abraham and his descendants.
