Security

In the biblical context, security often refers to the assurance of safety and protection provided by God to His people. This divine security is not merely physical but also spiritual, encompassing the well-being of the soul. The Bible frequently emphasizes that true security is found in trusting God rather than in human strength or material wealth.

One of the most poignant expressions of divine security is found in Psalm 91:1-2 : "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'" This passage highlights the protective nature of God as a refuge and fortress, offering safety to those who seek Him.

Proverbs 18:10 further underscores this theme: "The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." Here, the "name of the LORD" symbolizes His power and presence, providing a secure place for the righteous.

In the New Testament, Jesus assures His followers of spiritual security. In John 10:28-29 , He declares, "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand. My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand." This promise of eternal security is a cornerstone of Christian faith, emphasizing the believer's safety in the hands of Christ and the Father.

Vigilance

Vigilance in the Bible is the call to be watchful and alert, particularly in spiritual matters. It involves being aware of the spiritual dangers and temptations that can lead one away from God. The Scriptures frequently exhort believers to maintain a state of readiness and alertness.

1 Peter 5:8 warns, "Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." This verse highlights the necessity of vigilance against spiritual adversaries, urging believers to remain clear-headed and watchful.

Jesus Himself emphasized the importance of vigilance in the parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25:1-13 . The wise virgins were prepared and vigilant, keeping their lamps filled with oil, while the foolish ones were not. This parable serves as a reminder to be spiritually prepared for the coming of the Lord.

In addition, the Apostle Paul encourages believers to be vigilant in prayer. Colossians 4:2 states, "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." Here, vigilance is linked with prayerfulness and gratitude, suggesting that a watchful spirit is maintained through a close relationship with God.

The call to vigilance is also evident in the exhortation to put on the full armor of God, as described in Ephesians 6:10-18 . This passage instructs believers to be prepared for spiritual warfare by equipping themselves with truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, and the Word of God, all while remaining alert and persistent in prayer.
