Revelation to the Saints

The concept of "Revelation to the Saints" refers to the divine communication and unveiling of God's will, purpose, and truth to His chosen people, the saints. This revelation is a central theme throughout the Bible, where God discloses His nature, plans, and expectations to humanity, particularly to those who are set apart for His purposes.

Biblical Foundation

The Bible presents revelation as both general and special. General revelation refers to the knowledge of God available to all people through nature and conscience, as seen in passages like Psalm 19:1-4 and Romans 1:20. Special revelation, however, is the direct communication from God to His people, often through prophets, Scripture, and ultimately through Jesus Christ.

In the New Testament, the concept of revelation is closely associated with the unveiling of the mystery of Christ and the gospel. Ephesians 3:3-5 states, "that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets."

Revelation through Scripture

The Bible itself is considered the written revelation of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 affirms, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work." Through Scripture, God reveals His character, His laws, and His redemptive plan for humanity.

Revelation through Jesus Christ

The ultimate revelation to the saints is found in Jesus Christ, who is the Word made flesh (John 1:14). Hebrews 1:1-2 declares, "On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets. But in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe." Jesus embodies the fullness of God's revelation, providing the clearest picture of God's nature and His plan for salvation.

Revelation through the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in revealing God's truth to the saints. John 16:13 promises, "However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come." The Spirit illuminates the Scriptures, convicts of sin, and guides believers into a deeper understanding of God's will.

Revelation in the Last Days

The Book of Revelation, the final book of the New Testament, is a prophetic revelation given to the Apostle John. It unveils the ultimate victory of Christ, the final judgment, and the establishment of a new heaven and a new earth. Revelation 1:1 introduces the book as "The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon come to pass. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John."

The Role of the Saints

The saints, as recipients of God's revelation, are called to live in accordance with His revealed will. They are to be witnesses of the truth, proclaiming the gospel and living lives that reflect God's holiness. 1 Peter 2:9 describes the saints as "a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light."

In summary, the revelation to the saints encompasses God's communication through Scripture, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, guiding believers in faith and practice as they await the fulfillment of God's promises.
