Holiness of God

The holiness of God is a central attribute that signifies His absolute purity, moral perfection, and separation from sin. The Hebrew word for holy, "qadosh," conveys the idea of being set apart or distinct. God's holiness is foundational to His nature and is emphasized throughout Scripture. In Isaiah 6:3, the seraphim proclaim, "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts; all the earth is full of His glory." This thrice-repeated declaration underscores the supreme holiness of God, setting Him apart from all creation.

God's holiness is also evident in His moral law, which reflects His perfect character. Leviticus 19:2 commands, "Speak to the entire congregation of the Israelites and tell them: ‘Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.’" This call to holiness is a reflection of God's own nature and His desire for His people to emulate His purity and righteousness.

Sovereignty of God

The sovereignty of God refers to His supreme authority and power over all creation. As the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, God's sovereignty is absolute and unchallenged. Psalm 103:19 declares, "The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all." This verse affirms God's dominion over the heavens and the earth, highlighting His control over all things.

God's sovereignty is evident in His governance of the world and His orchestration of history. In Daniel 4:35, it is stated, "All the peoples of the earth are counted as nothing, and He does as He pleases with the army of heaven and the peoples of the earth. There is no one who can restrain His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’" This passage emphasizes God's ability to execute His will without hindrance, underscoring His ultimate authority.

The sovereignty of God is also manifest in His providential care for His creation. Romans 8:28 assures believers, "And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose." This verse highlights God's sovereign ability to bring about His purposes, even through the complexities and challenges of life.

Furthermore, God's sovereignty is intricately linked to His plan of salvation. Ephesians 1:11 states, "In Him we were also chosen as God’s own, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything by the counsel of His will." This passage reveals God's sovereign choice and His active role in the redemption of humanity, orchestrating events according to His divine purpose.
