Divine Judgment

Unlike human judgment, which can be flawed and biased, divine judgment is infallible and impartial. As stated in Deuteronomy 32:4 , "He is the Rock, His work is perfect; all His ways are just. A God of faithfulness without injustice, righteous and upright is He."

2. Examples of Divine Judgment: The Bible provides numerous instances of divine judgment. The flood in Genesis 6-9 serves as a judgment against the pervasive wickedness of humanity. Sodom and Gomorrah's destruction in Genesis 19 exemplifies God's judgment against grave sin. In the New Testament, Ananias and Sapphira's sudden deaths in Acts 5:1-11 illustrate divine judgment within the early church.

3. Purpose of Divine Judgment: Divine judgment serves multiple purposes. It upholds God's holiness and justice, deters sin, and calls individuals and nations to repentance. In Ezekiel 18:30 , God declares, "Therefore, house of Israel, I will judge each of you according to your ways, declares the Lord GOD. Repent and turn from all your offenses, so that sin will not be your downfall."

This is vividly depicted in Revelation 20:11-15, where the dead are judged according to their deeds. Jesus Himself speaks of this judgment in Matthew 25:31-46, separating the righteous from the unrighteous.

Divine Purpose

Divine purpose refers to God's intentional design and plan for creation and humanity. It encompasses His overarching will and specific intentions for individuals and nations. Understanding divine purpose is crucial for comprehending the narrative of the Bible and the unfolding of God's redemptive plan.

1. God's Sovereign Will: God's purpose is rooted in His sovereignty and eternal wisdom. Isaiah 46:10 declares, "I declare the end from the beginning, and ancient times from what is still to come. I say, 'My purpose will stand, and all My good pleasure I will accomplish.'" God's purpose is unchanging and will ultimately be fulfilled.

2. Creation and Redemption: The divine purpose is evident in the creation of the world and humanity. God created humans in His image (Genesis 1:27) to have a relationship with Him and to steward His creation. Despite the fall, God's redemptive purpose is revealed through the promise of a Savior and the unfolding of salvation history, culminating in Jesus Christ.

3. Individual Purpose: Each person has a unique role within God's divine purpose. Ephesians 2:10 states, "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life." Believers are called to live in accordance with God's will, using their gifts and talents for His glory.

4. Ultimate Fulfillment: The ultimate fulfillment of divine purpose is the establishment of God's kingdom and the restoration of all things. Revelation 21:1-4 describes the new heaven and new earth, where God's presence dwells with humanity, and there is no more death, mourning, or pain. This consummation reflects God's purpose to reconcile and renew creation through Christ.
