David's Warriors, also known as David's Mighty Men, were a group of elite soldiers who served under King David during his reign over Israel. The Three and The Thirty

The most distinguished among David's Warriors were "The Three" and "The Thirty." "The Three" were the highest-ranking warriors and included Josheb-Basshebeth, Eleazar son of Dodai, and Shammah son of Agee. Josheb-Basshebeth, also known as Adino the Eznite, was noted for killing eight hundred men with his spear in a single encounter (2 Samuel 23:8). Eleazar stood his ground against the Philistines until his hand grew weary and clung to his sword, securing a great victory for Israel (2 Samuel 23:9-10). Shammah defended a field of lentils from the Philistines, demonstrating his courage and commitment (2 Samuel 23:11-12).

"The Thirty" were a group of valiant men who supported David in his military campaigns. Although the list of "The Thirty" includes more than thirty names due to replacements and additions over time, they were collectively recognized for their valor and dedication. Among them were notable figures such as Abishai, the brother of Joab, who was chief of "The Thirty" and famous for wielding his spear against three hundred men (2 Samuel 23:18), and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, who performed mighty deeds, including killing a lion in a pit on a snowy day (2 Samuel 23:20).

Loyalty and Legacy

David's Warriors were not only exceptional fighters but also exemplified loyalty to their king. Their allegiance was evident in their willingness to risk their lives for David, as seen in the account of three of the warriors breaking through the Philistine camp to fetch water from the well of Bethlehem for David (2 Samuel 23:15-17).
