Amon, the son of Manasseh and the fifteenth king of Judah, reigned for a brief period before his untimely death. His reign is recorded in the Old Testament, specifically in 2 Kings 21:19-26 and 2 Chronicles 33:21-25. Amon ascended to the throne at the age of twenty-two and ruled for two years in Jerusalem. His reign is characterized by a continuation of the idolatrous practices initiated by his father, Manasseh, which provoked the LORD's anger.

Amon's reign was marked by his commitment to the pagan practices that his father had reinstated after a period of repentance. The biblical narrative in 2 Kings 21:20-22 states, "And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh had done. He walked in all the ways of his father, and he served the idols that his father had served and worshiped them. He abandoned the LORD, the God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the LORD."

Amon's idolatry and abandonment of the LORD led to his assassination by his own servants in his palace. This act of treachery is recorded in 2 Kings 21:23 : "Then the servants of Amon conspired against him and killed the king in his palace." However, the people of the land did not support this coup. Instead, they executed those who had conspired against Amon, as noted in 2 Kings 21:24 : "But the people of the land struck down all who had conspired against King Amon, and they made his son Josiah king in his place."

Amon's burial is briefly mentioned in the biblical account. He was interred in his tomb in the garden of Uzza, a burial site also used for his father, Manasseh. This is documented in 2 Kings 21:26 : "He was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza, and his son Josiah became king in his place." The garden of Uzza, though not extensively described in the Scriptures, served as a royal burial ground during this period of Judah's history.

The brief account of Amon's burial reflects the tumultuous nature of his reign and the swift transition of power to his son, Josiah, who would later become one of Judah's most righteous kings. Amon's death and burial underscore the consequences of forsaking the covenantal relationship with the LORD, a recurring theme in the narrative of the kings of Israel and Judah.
