φλόξ, genitive φλογός, (φλέγω (to burn; cf. Latin 'flagro', etc.)), from Homer down, the Sept. for לַהַב and לֶהָבָה, a flame: Luke 16:24; on the phrases φλόξ πυρός and πῦρ φλογός see πῦρ, p. 558{a}.
