ζώνη, ζώνης, (ζώννυμι (from Homer down), a girdle, belt, serving not only to gird on flowing garments, Matthew 3:4; Mark 1:6; Acts 21:11; Revelation 1:13; Revelation 15:6; but also, since it was hollow, to carry money in (A. V. purse): Matthew 10:9; Mark 6:8; Plutarch, mor., p. 665 b. quaest. conviv. 4:2, 3, 2; argentum in zonis habentes, Livy 33, 29. (B. D. under the word .)
