Jesus brought bound, and accused before Pilate. |
Upon the clamor of the people, the murderer Barabbas is released, |
and Jesus delivered up to be crucified. |
15 Ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος βουλόμενος τῷ ὄχλῳ τὸ ἱκανὸν ποιῆσαι ἀπέλυσεν αὐτοῖς τὸν Βαραββᾶν, καὶ παρέδωκεν τὸν Ἰησοῦν φραγελλώσας ἵνα σταυρωθῇ, |
He is crowned with thorns, spit on, and mocked; |
20 καὶ ὅτε ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ ἐξέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὴν πορφύραν καὶ ἐνέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ. |
Καὶ ἐξάγουσιν αὐτὸν ἵνα σταυρώσωσιν αὐτόν. |
faints in bearing his cross; |
24 Καὶ σταυροῦσιν αὐτὸν |
καὶ διαμερίζονται τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ, |
βάλλοντες κλῆρον ἐπ’ αὐτὰ τίς τί ἄρῃ, |
25 ἦν δὲ ὥρα τρίτη καὶ ἐσταύρωσαν αὐτόν. 26 καὶ ἦν ἡ ἐπιγραφὴ τῆς αἰτίας αὐτοῦ ἐπιγεγραμμένη· |
ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων. |
hangs between two thieves; |
suffers the triumphing reproaches of the crowd; |
33 Καὶ γενομένης ὥρας ἕκτης σκότος ἐγένετο ἐφ’ ὅλην τὴν γῆν ἕως ὥρας ἐνάτης. 34 καὶ τῇ ἐνάτῃ ὥρᾳ ἐβόησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς φωνῇ μεγάλῃ· |
ἐλωι ἐλωι λαμα σαβαχθανι; |
but is confessed by the centurion to be the Son of God; |
and is honorably buried by Joseph. |
