I hope you will put up with me in a little foolishness. Yes, please put up with me!1I wish you would bear with me in a little foolishness. Do bear with me!1I wish that you would bear with me in a little foolishness; but indeed you are bearing with me.1Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.1I wish you would put up with a little foolishness from me. Yes, do put up with me.
I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.2For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.2For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.2For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.2For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy, because I have promised you in marriage to one husband--to present a pure virgin to Christ.
But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.3But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.3But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.3But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.3But I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may be seduced from a complete and pure devotion to Christ.
For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.4For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.4For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.4For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.4For if a person comes and preaches another Jesus, whom we did not preach, or you receive a different spirit, which you had not received, or a different gospel, which you had not accepted, you put up with it splendidly!

I do not think I am in the least inferior to those "super-apostles."5Indeed, I consider that I am not in the least inferior to these super-apostles.5For I consider myself not in the least inferior to the most eminent apostles.5For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles.5Now I consider myself in no way inferior to the "super-apostles."
I may indeed be untrained as a speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear to you in every way.6Even if I am unskilled in speaking, I am not so in knowledge; indeed, in every way we have made this plain to you in all things.6But even if I am unskilled in speech, yet I am not so in knowledge; in fact, in every way we have made this evident to you in all things.6But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.6Though untrained in public speaking, I am certainly not untrained in knowledge. Indeed, we have always made that clear to you in everything.
Was it a sin for me to lower myself in order to elevate you by preaching the gospel of God to you free of charge?7Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself so that you might be exalted, because I preached God’s gospel to you free of charge?7Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself so that you might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you without charge?7Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?7Or did I commit a sin by humbling myself so that you might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you free of charge?
I robbed other churches by receiving support from them so as to serve you.8I robbed other churches by accepting support from them in order to serve you.8I robbed other churches by taking wages from them to serve you;8I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service.8I robbed other churches by taking pay from them to minister to you.
And when I was with you and needed something, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I have kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so.9And when I was with you and was in need, I did not burden anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied my need. So I refrained and will refrain from burdening you in any way.9and when I was present with you and was in need, I was not a burden to anyone; for when the brethren came from Macedonia they fully supplied my need, and in everything I kept myself from being a burden to you, and will continue to do so.9And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.9When I was present with you and in need, I did not burden anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied my needs. I have kept myself, and will keep myself, from burdening you in any way.

As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, nobody in the regions of Achaia will stop this boasting of mine.10As the truth of Christ is in me, this boasting of mine will not be silenced in the regions of Achaia.10As the truth of Christ is in me, this boasting of mine will not be stopped in the regions of Achaia.10As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia.10As the truth of Christ is in me, this boasting of mine will not be stopped in the regions of Achaia.
Why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do!11And why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do!11Why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do!11Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth.11Why? Because I don't love you? God knows I do!
And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about.12And what I am doing I will continue to do, in order to undermine the claim of those who would like to claim that in their boasted mission they work on the same terms as we do.12But what I am doing I will continue to do, so that I may cut off opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the matter about which they are boasting.12But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.12But I will continue to do what I am doing, in order to deny the opportunity of those who want an opportunity to be regarded just as our equals in what they boast about.
For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ.13For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.13For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.13For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.13For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.14And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.14No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.14And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.14And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.15So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.15Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.15Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.15So it is no great thing if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their destiny will be according to their works.

Paul's Sufferings and Service

(Colossians 1:24-29)

I repeat: Let no one take me for a fool. But if you do, then tolerate me just as you would a fool, so that I may do a little boasting.16I repeat, let no one think me foolish. But even if you do, accept me as a fool, so that I too may boast a little.16Again I say, let no one think me foolish; but if you do, receive me even as foolish, so that I also may boast a little.16I say again, Let no man think me a fool; if otherwise, yet as a fool receive me, that I may boast myself a little.16I repeat: No one should consider me a fool. But if you do, at least accept me as a fool, so I too may boast a little.
In this self-confident boasting I am not talking as the Lord would, but as a fool.17What I am saying with this boastful confidence, I say not as the Lord would but as a fool.17What I am saying, I am not saying as the Lord would, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of boasting.17That which I speak, I speak it not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in this confidence of boasting.17What I say in this matter of boasting, I don't speak as the Lord would, but foolishly.
Since many are boasting in the way the world does, I too will boast.18Since many boast according to the flesh, I too will boast.18Since many boast according to the flesh, I will boast also.18Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also.18Since many boast in an unspiritual way, I will also boast.
You gladly put up with fools since you are so wise!19For you gladly bear with fools, being wise yourselves!19For you, being so wise, tolerate the foolish gladly.19For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise.19For you, being so wise, gladly put up with fools!
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
In fact, you even put up with anyone who enslaves you or exploits you or takes advantage of you or puts on airs or slaps you in the face.20For you bear it if someone makes slaves of you, or devours you, or takes advantage of you, or puts on airs, or strikes you in the face.20For you tolerate it if anyone enslaves you, anyone devours you, anyone takes advantage of you, anyone exalts himself, anyone hits you in the face.20For ye suffer, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himself, if a man smite you on the face.20In fact, you put up with it if someone enslaves you, if someone devours you, if someone captures you, if someone dominates you, or if someone hits you in the face.
To my shame I admit that we were too weak for that! Whatever anyone else dares to boast about--I am speaking as a fool--I also dare to boast about.21To my shame, I must say, we were too weak for that! But whatever anyone else dares to boast of—I am speaking as a fool—I also dare to boast of that.21To my shame I must say that we have been weak by comparison. But in whatever respect anyone else is bold-- I speak in foolishness-- I am just as bold myself.21I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak. Howbeit whereinsoever any is bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also.21I say this to our shame: We have been weak. But in whatever anyone dares to boast--I am talking foolishly--I also dare:
Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they Abraham's descendants? So am I.22Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they offspring of Abraham? So am I.22Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I.22Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I.22Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So am I.
Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again.23Are they servants of Christ? I am a better one—I am talking like a madman—with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death.23Are they servants of Christ?-- I speak as if insane-- I more so; in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death.23Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.23Are they servants of Christ? I'm talking like a madman--I'm a better one: with far more labors, many more imprisonments, far worse beatings, near death many times.
Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.24Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one.24Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes.24Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.24Five times I received 39 lashes from Jews.

Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea,25Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea;25Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep.25Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;25Three times I was beaten with rods by the Romans. Once I was stoned by my enemies. Three times I was shipwrecked. I have spent a night and a day in the open sea.
I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers.26on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers;26I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren;26In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;26On frequent journeys, I faced dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my own people, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the open country, dangers on the sea, and dangers among false brothers;
I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked.27in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.27I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.27In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.27labor and hardship, many sleepless nights, hunger and thirst, often without food, cold, and lacking clothing.
Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches.28And, apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches.28Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches.28Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.28Not to mention other things, there is the daily pressure on me: my care for all the churches.
Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn?29Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to fall, and I am not indignant?29Who is weak without my being weak? Who is led into sin without my intense concern?29Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not?29Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?

If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.30If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.30If I have to boast, I will boast of what pertains to my weakness.30If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities.30If boasting is necessary, I will boast about my weaknesses.
The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is to be praised forever, knows that I am not lying.31The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying.31The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, He who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying.31The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not.31The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is praised forever, knows I am not lying.
In Damascus the governor under King Aretas had the city of the Damascenes guarded in order to arrest me.32At Damascus, the governor under King Aretas was guarding the city of Damascus in order to seize me,32In Damascus the ethnarch under Aretas the king was guarding the city of the Damascenes in order to seize me,32In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king kept the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desirous to apprehend me:32In Damascus, the governor under King Aretas guarded the city of the Damascenes in order to arrest me,
But I was lowered in a basket from a window in the wall and slipped through his hands.33but I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall and escaped his hands.33and I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and so escaped his hands.33And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands.33so I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall and escaped his hands.
