Eutychus an Instructive Warning to the Unsteadfast
Acts 20:6-12
And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came to them to Troas in five days…

I. BY HIS DANGEROUS SLEEP. The heart may be overpowered by the sleep of a false security —

1. In the midst of the assembled congregation.

2. During the hearing of the Divine Word.

II. BY HIS TERRIBLE FALL — an admonitory representation of that from a height of imaginary faith to sin and perdition.

III. BY HIS MIRACULOUS DELIVERANCE. In the arms of a Paul who penetrates him with his power of life and warmth of love, even the deeply fallen and dead may by the grace of God again become living. But it remains a miracle of which even the Scripture does not relate many similar. Let us not run the risk. Be sober and vigilant.
