What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found?

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has a ground of boasting, but not before God.

For what does the Scripture say? “And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.”

Now to the one working, the wage is not reckoned according to grace, but according to debt.

But to the one not working but believing on the One justifying the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness,

just as David also declares the blessedness of the man to whom God reckons righteousness apart from works:

“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;

blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall never reckon sin.”
