16 Woe to you?, blind guides, those saying, ‘Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold of the temple is bound by his oath.’ 17 Foolish and blind ones! For which is greater: the gold, or the temple having sanctified the gold? 18 And you say, ‘Whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it is bound by his oath.’ 19 Blind ones! For which is greater: the gift, or the altar sanctifying the gift? 20 Therefore the one having sworn by the altar swears by it and by all things that are upon it. 21 And the one having sworn by the temple swears by it and by the One dwelling in it. 22 And the one having sworn by heaven swears by the throne of God and by the One sitting upon it.
