1 This is the record (papyrus roll) of the genealogy of Jesus (YHWH saves) Christ (the Anointed One), the son of David (beloved), the son of Abraham (father of many): 2 Abraham (father of many) was the father of Isaac (he will laugh), Isaac the father of Jacob (he grasps the heel), and Jacob the father of Judah (praise) and his brothers. 3 Judah (praise) was the father of Perez (breaking out) and Zerah (dawning) by Tamar (date palm), Perez the father of Hezron (surrounded by a wall), and Hezron the father of Ram (exalted).
