1 Within two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread, and the chief priests, with the Scribes, contriv'd how they might seize Jesus by surprize, and put him to death. 2 but they objected, it could not be during the festival, for fear of a popular insurrection. 3 now being at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, while he was at table, there came a woman with a viol full of the perfume of spikenard, which was very costly; and she opened the viol, and poured it upon his head. 4 but some had a secret indignation, and said, why must the perfume be so wasted?
