1 And having entered, He was passing through Jericho. 2 And behold, a man called by the name Zacchaeus, and he was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. 3 And he was seeking to see Jesus, who He is. And he was not able on account of the crowd, because he was small in stature. 4 And having run ahead to the front, he went up on a sycamore-fig tree so that he might see Him, for He was about to pass through that way. 5 And as He came upon the place, having looked up, Jesus said to him, “Zacchaeus, having hurried, come down, for it is necessary for Me to stay in your house today.” 6 And having hurried, he came down and received Him, rejoicing. 7 And having seen it, they were all grumbling, saying, “He entered to lodge with a sinful man.” 8 But having stood, Zacchaeus said to the Lord, “Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I give to the poor; and if I defrauded anything of anyone, I repay it fourfold.” 9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation came to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” 11 Now in their hearing these things, having proceeded, He spoke a parable because of His being near Jerusalem and their thinking that the kingdom of God is about to appear immediately. 12 Therefore He said, “A certain man of noble birth went to a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. 13 And having called ten of his servants, he gave to them ten minas and said to them, ‘Do business until I come.’ Luke 19:1-13, Berean Literal Bible.
