1 And these are the sons of Israel who inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel, distributed as an inheritance to them. 2 Their inheritance was by lot, as YHWH had commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe. 3 For Moses had given the inheritance to two of the tribes and the half-tribe on the other side of the Jordan; and to the Levites he had given not an inheritance in their midst. 4 For the sons of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, and they gave no portion to the Levites in the land, but only cities to dwell in, with their pasturelands for their livestock and their property. 5 As YHWH had commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did, and they divided the land. 6 And the sons of Judah came near to Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know the word that YHWH said to Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-barnea. 7 I was a son of forty years when Moses the servant of YHWH sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back to him word as with my heart. 8 And my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, and I wholly followed after YHWH my God. 9 And Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Nevertheless, the land where your foot has trodden in it shall be to you for an inheritance, and to your sons, even to forever, because you have wholly followed YHWH my God.’ Joshua 14:1-9, Berean Literal Bible.
