1 After these things, there was a Jewish festival, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now in Jerusalem by the sheep area there is a pool, which is called in Hebrew, |Beth Hesda,| having five porches. 3 In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, or paralyzed. 5 A certain man was there, who had been sick for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been sick for a long time, he asked him, |Do you want to be made well?| 7 The sick man answered him, |Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I'm coming, another steps down before me.| 8 Jesus said to him, |Arise, take up your mat, and walk.| 9 Immediately, the man was made well, and took up his mat and walked. Now it was the Sabbath on that day. John 5:1-9, New Heart English Bible. Public domain.
