Jeremiah 16:1-7 ▼

1 And the word of YHWH came to me, saying:

2 “You shall not take for yourself a wife, and not shall there be unto you sons and daughers in this place.”

3 For thus says YHWH concerning the sons and concerning the daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their mothers who bore them, and concerning their fathers who begat them in this land:

4 “They will die diseased deaths; they will not be mourned, and they will not be buried; they will be like dung upon the face of the ground, and by the sword and by famine they will be finished off, and their corpses shall be as food for the birds of the heavens and for the beast of the earth.”

5 For thus says YHWH: “Do not enter a house of mourning, and do not go to mourn, and you shall not bemoan them, for I have gathered up My peace away from this people, a declaration of YHWH, even loving devotion and mercies.”

6 “And the great and the small will die in this land; they will not be buried, and no one will mourn for them nor cut themselves nor make themselves bald for them.

7 And no one will break it for them for mourning, to comfort them for the dead, nor give them the cup of consolation to drink for his father or for his mother.
